those who are doctors-going-to-be..something to be pondered here

just now during the practical session, something interesting had happened. the lab where i'm doing the practical session had received a blood sample from a DKA (diabetes ketone acidosis) patient from one of the wards. we were asked to run a FBP and check for any abnormalities. after the test had been run, something interesting popped up. the Hb level was very2 low until its possible for the patient to stay alive, supposedly the patient was dead already ( cant remember how low the Hb level..but very2 low la). so our lab officer asked for another blood sample of the patient.

moment later, the blood sample arrived. so we run the same test and after the result came out, it was surprising when the Hb level for the 2nd sample was normal. so the doctor in charged for the lab gave a call to the doctor who responsible to take the blood sample from the patient.

Our doctor (a she) asked whether the doctor (a he) who took the blood sample had done the blood drawing correctly or not becoz our doctor suspected that he had taken the blood from a drip ( suspected normal saline since we had done the electrolites test and sodium as well as chlorite were high and glucose level was very low 2.9 if not mistaken).

but the doctor who took the blood sample didnt admit the mistake and claimed that he got witness who saw him taking the blood sample correctly. But then the result of the test said otherwise and for those who are the CSI freaks should know that the evidence does not lie.

i donno wut happen to the doctor after that becoz our doctor demanded for him to come down to the lab and see for himself the mistake and the evidence..

its really dangerous since the patient is a DKA and if the first blood sample was used to treat the patient, he will surely die since the glucose level was very low but yet he was having DKA at that particular time ( glucose level is very high). if the doctor in charged for the patient saw the result and administered a large amount of dextrose or glucose solution, poor that patient lah..huhuu..

we are just a man, everything that will happen to a man will happen to a man lah..including mistakenly doing mistakes..we wont be degraded by others if we do mistakes since we just a man. but we will put ourselves as low as where it is very low if we do not admit the mistakes that we have done..

peace 2 all
